David Luiz reveals what Roman Abramovich told him before signing new Chelsea contract

Roman Abramovich's heart is still with Chelsea, David Luiz has stated.

The Russian billionaire's future with the west London outfit has been a hot topic amid numerous rumours over the past year suggesting that he is looking to sell the club which has prompted talk of a takeover attempt from Jim Ratcliffe.

Furthermore, redevelopment plans for Stamford Bridge have been shelved for the foreseeable future and his visa has not been renewed by the Home Office after a deterioration in relationships between the UK and Russia.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the three loan stars tipped to become Chelsea legends

When factoring all of that plus Abramovich's absence from Stamford Bridge since May 2018, supporters could be forgiven for thinking that he is ready to sell the club he bought in 2003.

However, Luiz - who spoke with the 52-year-old prior to signing his new contract last week - has moved to reassure those fans that the Russian still has ambitions to oversee more success in west London.

"He has been away but his heart is here,"Luiz told the Daily Mail . "He loves this club. He is the one who built Chelsea.

"Everything at Chelsea changed because of him. The results speak for themselves: 15 trophies in 15 years. He came here to do something amazing and he did it.

"I had the opportunity to talk with him last week, to decide my future. He loves the club and everything that is inside the club, not just the people. He wants to win everything.

"He is still in love with the club and wants to do more.

"It is difficult for him, but his heart is with us, he tries to be involved every single day. He is still really passionate for the club. He is still thinking in the same way. He has the same hunger, thinking about winning.

"He doesn't want to lose energy."
