David Luiz holds hands up to Arsenal defeat and lifts lid on Mikel Arteta's reaction

David Luiz has taken full responsibility for Arsenal's defeat by Manchester City - but says Mikel Arteta still wants him to stay.

The Brazilian centre-back dropped two clangers against the Citizens, setting Raheem Sterling up to score before conceding a penalty, and getting sent off in the process.

After the match, which finished 3-0, Luiz came out to speak to the press.

He told Sky Sports: "It was not the team's fault it was my fault. The coach is amazing, all the players did amazing, it was just my fault.

"I should have taken a different decision in the last two months. I didn't - it was all about my contract.

"Different decision to try and decide my future as early as possible but I didn't. I don't want to use that as an excuse, it was my fault and that is it.

"I love to be here that is why I continue to train hard and that is why I came today. Nobody asked me to speak, it is up to me to show my face. I want to stay. The coach knows and wants me to stay, we are waiting for the decisions."

Arteta added: "He has spoken in the dressing room, he is honest and straightforward.

"I'm sure he will explain his feelings, my feelings for David have not changed since I came here, and they won't change tonight.

"Whatever we were going to do, we will do."
