David Luiz accuses Burnley of anti-football due to 'time-wasting tactics'

David Luiz's 32nd birthday was wrecked by Burnley's 'anti football'.

The Chelsea defender wasn't happy with the Clarets' approach to the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

On the night when manager Maurizio Sarri was sent to the stands, his team blew a great chance to profit from their tip four rivals' woeful weekends.

But Luiz says Burnley's time wasting made that impossible on an evening packed with drama in west London.

"We tried everything to win the game," the Brazilian centre-back told Sky Sports.

How Chelsea's draw with Burnley has affected the Premier League top-four race

"It's difficult when you play against a team who have two chances and score two goals and didn't want to play the game.

"It's anti-football. Losing time [time wasting] all the time, especially when you have the ball.

Their players went to the floor and stopped the game.

"They were playing 11 inside the box. It's difficult to score against a team like that."

The game was heated - especially towards the end.

Sarri's coach Gianfranco Zola revealed the mass brawl was sparked by something said to fitness coach Paolo Bertelli.

Gianfranco Zola reveals what sparked mass brawl after Chelsea's draw with Burnley

"It is a football game and there is a lot of passion," Zola told Sky Sports.

"We are not happy because of the result and we are not happy because he didn't play enough and of course we showed all our emotions because we care, they did the same.

"Paolo Bertelli isn't happy because of some words that were said to him, we will follow on that."

Zola continued to the BBC: "Sarri was very upset because he has heard not good words towards him from the Burnley bench.

Big name legends confirmed for this summer's Soccer Aid at new venue

"The only reason he walked over there was to get our players to go into position, he was trying to help the ref. Kevin [Friend] misinterpreted. I’m disappointed, he wanted to help him."

On the Clarets' tactics, he added: "We are unhappy. There was too much time wasting.

"Five minutes injury time wasn’t enough to compensate. We couldn’t build important rhythm.

"We were hoping for something more. We are determined to fight until the end. This team are playing good football. We need to improve but we’re in a good way. We care as we showed today."
