DAVID Lammy broke the law when he went fishing with JD Vance at Chevening House.
The Foreign Secretary faces a fine of up to £2500 for fishing without a rod licence.
He entertained the US Vice President at the grace-and-favour country manor in Oxfordshire earlier this week.
Lammy has referred himself to the Environment Agency for the rule breach, The Sun reports. It is not known whether Vance had a rod licence.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “The Foreign Secretary has written to the Environment Agency over an administrative oversight that meant the appropriate licences had not been acquired for fishing on a private lake as part of a diplomatic engagement at Chevening House last week.

“As soon as the Foreign Secretary was made aware of the administrative error, he successfully purchased the relevant rod fishing licences.
“He also wrote to the Environment Agency notifying them of the error, demonstrating how it would be rectified, and thanking them for their work protecting Britain’s fisheries.”
Lammy was also accused of dodging a £590 taxi fare – which he denies – in France.
The driver, who has since been charged with stealing the Foreign Secretary’s luggage and cash, accused Lammy of having become aggressive when asked for payment.
