Doug Farrar for Touchdown Wire has put together the top 11 for each position in the league. Arizona Cardinals players have been noticeably absent from many of those lists.
His latest ranks the top 11 running backs in the league, which many would presumably expect to include Arizona’s David Johnson.
It doesn’t.
Cardinals fans will feel slighted but the list includes players who all outperformed him the last two years. Seattle’s Chris Carson, who rushed for more than 1,100 yards last season, was the No. 11 player on the list.
Should Johnson, who rushed for 940 yards a season ago, be on this list? He is paid like it. Cardinals fans look to his 2016 season and see what he could be. Injuries and misuse feel like the reason he has held back the last two years.
2019 is a huge season for Johnson. He needs and the team need him to perform at a level closer to 2016, where he is a dynamic runner and receiver. If he does that, he will find himself once again named among the top backs in the league.
