David Johnson not expected play vs. 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals listed running back David Johnson officially as questionable on their final Week 9 injury report after he was limited in practice on Wednesday. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury also said Johnson was “working through it” with the injury.

However, Johnson is not expected to play.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that.

It was reported over the weekend that Johnson would likely miss the game against the New Orleans Saints and also the Cardinals’ game Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

With Chase Edmonds already ruled out with a hamstring injury, that leaves a trio of running backs who haven’t been with the team long.

They have Kenyan Drake, acquired this week via trade, and also Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner, both of whom signed with the team last week.

None have had a rushing attempt with the Cardinals. Morris was inactive in Week 8 and Zenner caught one pass for 13 yards.

Kingsbury indicated the Cardinals would go with a shared committee of backs in the running game.
