David Johnson mess continues to be a nightmare for fantasy football owners

Oh no. Nooooooooooo. NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not again.

Last week, fantasy football owners had Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson in their lineups after he got some practice in before the matchup against the New York Giants. He had an ankle injury but appeared to play through it.

Then, he had all of one carry for two yards … and sat the rest of the day, watching Chase Edmonds go off. It was the most frustrating thing ever in fantasy land — just ask ESPN’s Matthew Berry — with the Cards hiding that DJ turned out to be a decoy. They hadn’t signed a back off the practice squad or a free agent!

This week — with vets Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner now on the roster — it seems more obvious that Johnson could miss Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, but …

Let me quote the great Mon Calamari military mind Admiral Ackbar:

You know what to do if Johnson is active for this game: stick him on your bench and don’t look back. If he somehow emerges and finds a way to go off against an extremely tough Saints front seven? Whatever. If you were burned last week, there’s no reason to take a risk on it happening a second straight time, and fantasy is all about mitigating risk.
