David Jeffrey leaves Ballymena United after Irish Cup final defeat

David Jeffrey has parted company with Ballymena United, the club have confirmed.

In a brief statement posted on the club's Twitter account on Tuesday evening the Sky Blues said the 60-year-old had left the club "by mutual consent".

The statement read: "Ballymena United can announce that David Jeffrey has left the club this evening by mutual consent.

"We thank David for his achievements at the Showgrounds during his time here, not least for our League Cup win and European forays, and express our best wishes to him for the future."

The news comes just three days after United were beaten 4-0 by Crusaders in the Irish Cup final.

Speaking after Sunday's final Jeffrey spoke of the challenges he faced holding onto the club's top players with several more set to depart The Showgrounds.

"That's been a constant thing, but that's just football," he said.

"Some supporters might come out and say Ballymena don't have any ambition, but it's about resources and what you can do with them.

"If you make a list of players who have been with us under mine and Bryan McLoghlin's tenure but have moved on elsewhere and done fantastically well."

It has been a challenging season for the club both on and off the pitch.

Jeffrey was the club's longest-serving manager having been at The Showgrounds for seven years, winning the League Cup in 2017.

The club now begins the search for a new manager ahead of next season.

"We will make an announcement in the near future about the way forward for the Sky Blues," they confirmed.
