David Jason declares himself an 'action man' and wants to do film with Tom Cruise

Actor David Jason reckons an action role alongside Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise would be lovely jubbly.

The 80-year-old screen legend, best known for playing Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses, is clearly in the creme de la menthe of health as he offers himself up for the Hollywood role.

He said: “I’d love to work with Tom Cruise because he’s a bit of a good looking action man and I’m a bit of an action man myself.

“I could give him a helping hand. Tom, if you’re listening – I’m available.” He also revealed that he came up with some of Del Boy’s odd catchphrases for the 1980s BBC sitcom – including “bonnet de douche”, after seeing a shower cap in Paris.

Speaking at an Only Fools and Horses convention, David said: “I happened to mention it to [show creator] John Sullivan... he said, ‘Yeah, we’ll use that’.

“Del would say, ‘Hello, darling, bonnet de douche? Avec moi.’

“Del didn’t know what he was saying but it sounded impressive.”

It comes after David declared that TV producers have ruined comedy.

“You cannot watch the television without them spoiling the story about what’s coming up, it annoys me intensely,” he told the Daily Star.

“The problem with today’s values is that the people who promote the shows would reveal that in the trailers, what’s coming up next week.”

The actor also reaped praise on the team behind Only Fools And Horses, and admitted that the show’s writer would have never given away details that producers do today.

He said: “He held that until the last minute and it was a wonderful relief, a realisation and a big laugh.”
