David Healy's farewell message to Charlie Allen ahead of 'exciting' time for Leeds United

Former Leeds United forward David Healy has spoken of the 'exciting new adventure' that awaits Charlie Allen at Elland Road.

Linfield boss Healy handed Allen his club debut at Windsor Park and is predicting big things from the 16-year-old.

“I want to take this opportunity to advise our supporters that Charlie Allen will today start an exciting new adventure with Leeds United," he told the Linfield website.

"Agreement has been reached between the clubs for the transfer to take place and this is a terrific opportunity for Charlie to progress and develop as a player at a club I know well from my playing days and which is looking forward to an exciting new season back in the Premier League.

"Charlie won’t be 17 until November but Leeds and several other leading clubs see the potential he possesses and the hard work really starts now for Charlie to carve out a career for himself."

Leeds confirmed the signing of Allen for an undisclosed fee earlier this week, with the teen putting pen to paper on a three-year deal. He will initially link up with the club's under-18s side.

Healy, who spend three seasons at Elland Road between 2004 and 2007, says everyone at Linfield will be keeping a close eye on his development in West Yorkshire.

"He and his father came in to see me last week to say their farewells. I know he has a supportive family and they and all his friends in Carrickfergus are right behind him in wanting him to do well as he embarks upon this exciting new challenge.

"Charlie progressed through our Academy and made several first team appearances and I know the coaches in our Academy are delighted to see him be given this opportunity at a big club and they too will be watching his progress with interest and willing him to succeed."
