David Healy hoping for squad boost ahead of busy January schedule

David Healy is hoping to receive a boost to his squad ahead of a busy month of fixtures.

Linfield face eight games in January, including the County Antrim Shield final against Larne.

The Blues boss knows the schedule will test his squad, but he is hopeful long-term absentees Ben Hall and Jordan Stewart will be able to play their part.

And with the transfer window now open Healy revealed he is also eyeing some new recruits for Windsor Park.

"It's a busy January, I think we have eight games coming up," he said.

"Ben and Jordan have made a couple of reserve team appearances over the last couple of weeks.

"The disappointing thing for the two of them and people like Niall Quinn is that they haven't played too many minutes in the league for us this year.

"Ben is making good progress, he might get more minutes for the Swifts this week.

"I'm hoping he will come into the equation a little bit further down the line.

"Jordan is a little bit further behind; physically he's behind the others, he's not ready to play at the minute, he's not at the level where he needs to be at the moment.

"You always hope that when lads are injured and they make their return that they don't come back and then be out for a period of time afterwards. You have to make sure they're right.

"In terms of the transfer window we're always on the lookout for players.

"We'll have a look and see what's available and have a look at what money we have at the club and we'll assess our options going forward."

It is Irish Cup action for Linfield this Saturday as they welcome Warrenpoint Town to Windsor.

Healy admitted he may make one or two changes to the line-up, but he is conscious of the threat posed by Barry Gray's men.

"I know a lot about Warrenpoint and Barry and the way they play," he said.

"When I saw him at the draw he was cursing his luck but we don't fall into that because there has always been cup shocks and we've been on the end of one or two.

"They'll be given the full respect that Barry and the team deserve.

"We may mix one or two up the team that we will play against Warrenpoint will be a strong Linfield team."
