David Haye reveals Audley Harrison is helping him learn poker ahead of Goliath challenge

David Haye taught Audley Harrison a lesson in the ring six years ago - but now teacher has turned pupil.

Since retiring from boxing for a second time last year, Haye has swapped his gloves for poker chips.

The former two-weight world champion will next month bid to conquer the Goliath poker tournament - the biggest outside Las Vegas.

And Haye subjected himself to an intense 48-hour boot camp with Harrison in a bid to learn his flush from his river.

"On a scale of zero-10 with zero being pathetic and 10 being a seasoned professional, I'd say I’m a four," he said. "On certain days I play like I'm a six but I need more experience playing.

"So the most worthwhile experience was my trip to the Philippines where Audley Harrison gave me a 48-hour intense boot camp where we played all day long.

"After every hand I would explain what I did and he would say whether that had been a good idea or not; that was the biggest step for me."

Haye knocked out Harrison in the third round in 2013 in a farcical heavyweight clash during which the latter barely threw a punch.

But the 2000 Olympic champion was more than happy to lend his old rival a helping - and winning - hand.

"Audley has been playing poker for years and has got to final tables in some big competitions," added Haye.

"He's a really good teacher; he's really patient and he will pull me to one side. For example, we were on the same table as each other and I did a weird raise that wasn't enough to shake everyone off.

"After the break he said I went too low and should have raised twice as much as he did. He was right; I did it again and it worked.

"He is a former boxer so he understands, we're made of similar stuff in that we've been in a high pressure job for many, many years and we're used to pushing our bodies to the limit.

"He became a successful poker player, I think he has £250,000 in winnings as well as a ranking."
