David Hasselhoff spotted at Cardiff Market buying a new suit and hat for family party

David Hasselhoff surprised lunchtime shoppers when he called in to Cardiff Market to pick up a new suit for a family party.

The Hoff was looking for something smart to wear for the party of his wife Hayley Roberts's grandmother Jean McGuirk. Mrs McGuirk's 90th birthday is in Wales later this month.

He was spotted shopping for a suit, waistcoat and hat at Hatts Emporium, which describes itself as a British vintage and heritage store.

His wife Hayley, from Glynneath, said: "We have been travelling for about a month now to Italy and Germany. We have one week spare before we go to New York, so I really wanted to see my family as I haven't seen them for ages.

"It is my gran's 90th birthday so he wants to dress up special."

David said he was hoping to find some clothes that would reflect the era when Jean grew up.

Shop worker Stuart Talbot said: "It was a lovely surprise to serve Mr Hasselhoff for an event he has coming up.

"He bought one our waistcoasts and tie which are a real Welsh design."

This is the third time the Hoff has been to the shop.

Nirmal and Rajwant Singh and their three-year-old grandson were walking past the shop when the Hoff said hello to them.

"He said hello to us when we were walking past. He said 'hi guys'," Nirmal said.

"I just thought it was a copy of him. We walked 10 yards and thought 'that's him'! We stopped for about 20 minutes - he said he was shopping but he didn't mind taking a photo. He's a decent guy. I've watched him since I was a kid on Knight Rider."

The visit attracted quite a crowd and at one point the owner put the shutters down to give the actor some privacy.

After taking selfies and signing CDs for fans, the pair went up to Kellys Records to get a birthday present for her grandmother - where they were presented a special gift.

Shop worker Russell Milton said: "He was shopping for some records... they wanted some records from the 50s and a little bit earlier, the 30s as well.

"We also dug out one of his old singles and gave him that as well - he was pleased as punch. It was just a little bit of fun."

Hayley said the pair would soon be travelling to New York but would be back in Wales for the 90th party and for Christmas.
