David Hasselhoff is starring as Scrooge in Cardiff this Christmas and giving away £3,000 each show

Star of Baywatch, Knightrider and honorary Welshman David Hasselhoff will be in Cardiff this Christmas playing Scrooge in the seasonal extravaganza, Scrooge - A Funny Family Spectacular.

If that wasn't enough, one lucky audience member will walk away with £3,000 cash, which is in keeping with the Christmas spirit of Charles Dickens' story, A Christmas Carol in which Ebenezer Scrooge appeared.

The show is at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff from Friday, December 6 to Sunday, December 8 and tickets are available now from Ticketmaster.

The Grinch is coming to Cardiff for Christmas 2019 as part of a UK arena tour

Speaking about his role, Hasselhoff, who married long-time Welsh partner Hayley Roberts in 2018, said he had always wanted to play the famous literary character.

He said: "I’ve dreamt of playing Scrooge for a long time. The great thing about this is that it’s not a panto, it’s a fully-fledged Christmas show.

"It’s the Dickens classic with great music on a spectacular scale in huge arenas. But just imagine coming to see the show and walking away with £3,000! That’s pretty incredible."

The arena show will also feature Birds of a Feather actor Pauline Quirke as the Ghost of Christmas Past, a haunted ghost train, aerialist performers and a horse-drawn carriage.

Hasselhoff continued: "Even though Scrooge is a mean baddie, he’s a fun guy, you know? You like him and at the end when he realises his heart was broken he turns into someone who wants to live the rest of his life in a positive way.

"It’s very similar to my life, in a way. I’ve gone through ups and downs and I’m coming back strong, with a beautiful wife and a lot of fantastic opportunities like this."

The Hoff married Hayley in Puglia, Italy last summer after getting together in 2011 when the actor was in Cardiff recording Britain's Got Talent.

The couple have regularly visited Wales and David has often expressed his support for the Welsh rugby team.

He added: "Even though people sometimes hassle The Hoff I can get into disguise and go to Christmas fairs.

"In Cardiff They just kinda whisper ‘Hey, welcome back’. It’s a fun place and because I support the rugby team and because I’ve been on the pitch they accept me as an honorary Welshman”.
