David Harbour breaks his silence on Lily Allen divorce and his 'pain, slip-ups and mistakes'

Hollywood actor David Harbour has spoken out about his divorce from Lily Allen, following revelations in the singer's new album about his alleged tryst with another woman.

Ahead of his 50th birthday, David spoke to Esquire Spain in September before the release of Lily's West End Girl album, as he reflected upon his "pain, slip-ups and mistakes".

In response to a question on what he would change about his life, he told the magazine: "That's such a hard question – the question of regret, or something. I would change either everything or nothing.

"You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there's truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that.

"It's kind of like a house of cards, the minute you try to change one thing you kind of have to change it all."

He added that if he could amend one thing in his life, he would change "everything" and "just make my life happy and silly" although this would have an impact on his artistry, which would "suck".

David's alleged misdemeanours are laid bare in Lily Allen's latest album, in particular the confessional tracks "Tennis" and "Madeline", which she claims followed her discovery of a string of infidelities - including a three-year affair.

Reviewers describe West End Girl as Lily's response to the devastating breakup of her marriage last December with the Stranger Things actor, who she was married to for four years after meeting on celebrity dating app Raya.

The album, Lily's first in seven years, has been closely inspected by eagle-eyed fans for clues about what led to the end of the couple's union.

The track "Madeline" is purportedly named after in honour of David's alleged mistress and features the lyrics, "Who the f*** is Madeline".

On Friday, Lily poked more fun at the controversy by dressing up as the children's book character Madeline, from the classic series by Ludwig Bemelmans.

Appearing at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles on the same day of the single's release on Friday, Lily appeared in full regalia as Madeline - in a thinly disguised nod to her ex's purported affair.

Lily completed the look with an orange bob wig, white socks, black shoes and a red Birkin handbag.

Although Lily has accused the Stranger Things actor of cheating on her, she insists her new song is a mix of confessional lyrics and fiction.

But journalists have raced to find the backstory behind the anthem, with one interviewer brazenly asking Lily, “Who the f*** is Madeline?”

The Smile singer has opened up about the separation and the suicidal thoughts it led to.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, she said she “wanted to die” and “came close to relapsing on drink and drugs.”

She shared her struggles with food, which were exacerbated by the divorce: “I’ve had real problems with food over the past few years.
