David Gray wants Hearts salvation as Hibs skipper reveals Celtic title verdict

Hibs captain David Gray wants to see Hearts saved from relegation.

The Jambos' fate could be sealed if Friday's SPFL vote garners enough support to conclude the season as things stand.

Should the proposal pass, the Championship, League One and League Two would end immediately - with the Premiership given the green light to follow suit.

But Gray believes the top flight would be worse off without Hearts, who are four points behind Hamilton in the play-off position and six adrift of Ross County.

The defender also insists Celtic have done enough to be crowned title winners for the ninth consecutive season.

Gray told PLZ Soccer : “Celtic have been the most consistent team throughout the season.

“Obviously it would be a difficult one for Rangers supporters to take but at the same time, I think they would appreciate the fact that Celtic are top of the league and they’ve done very well.

“From my point of view you want to see Hearts in the league definitely.

“They are fantastic games to be involved in, the derbies. They are fixtures that we all look forward to.

“It’s better for Scottish football having the top teams at the top.

“They are where they are in the league but the situation is so unprecedented.

“It will be interesting to see how that one goes down.”

Meanwhile, Hearts owner Ann Budge insists she does not expect the SPFL's resolution to pass.

She declared her opposition to the plans on Wednesday night and has spent Thursday gauging the opinion of fellow clubs.

Budge said: "Based on the conversations I have had - and I’ve talked to a number of clubs in the Premiership and Championship although I haven’t talked to League One or Two clubs because I don’t have the ready contacts - but I don’t believe this will be supported."
