David Gray uncertain if Celtic final will be managed by someone else as Hibs caretaker insists he can turn corner

Caretaker Hibs boss David Gray has "no idea" if he'll be sitting in the Hampden dugout in a week's time.

But the Easter Road legend is just taking every day as it comes with the Premier Sports Cup Final against Celtic looming.

Gray is in charge for the time being after Jack Ross was given the boot on Thursday following a seventh loss in nine games at Livingston.

Hibs battled against St Mirren but couldn't find the win to turn their fortunes in a 1-1 draw in Paisley.

Josh Campbell's goal had them looking good for all three points but Joe Shaughnessy's leveller three minutes from time was a gut punch for Gray.

He admits he may even be told to stand down as soon as Monday for all he knows with a Tuesday test against Dundee to come before the shot at silverware next Sunday.

Gray said: “It’s been that much of a whirlwind I’ve not thought about myself or what I want to do moving forward.

“It’s purely and simply about Dundee and I'm starting to think about that now.

“I have no idea if I’ll still be in charge for Hampden.

“The foreseeable future to me is until someone tells me to do something different.

“Myself, Eddie and Sammy will continue preparing the team to the best of our ability.

“We’ve got Dundee before the cup final and that’s the most important thing.

“Do the players need clarity? They just need to stick together. Everyone involved has to stick together and get ourselves ready for Tuesday.

“That becomes the biggest game of our season.

“We’ve got an opportunity to catch up with a game we’ve missed and try to get three points that moves us up the league.

“Will I still be in charge on Monday? I’ve no idea. There’s always Sunday first and then we’ll go from there."

Hibs were dragged closer and closer towards the bottom of the table with Aberdeen and Livingston picking up wins above and below them in the Premiership.

While the defeat to Livi in midweek that spelled the end of the Ross reign was a sorry affair, Gray was adamant he saw a drastic improvement.

“It's a different disappointment from Wednesday night when we lost at Livingston," he added.

“Then, we got what we deserved, which was nothing. Today, to lose the goal very late on and it’s disappointing. But the manner was different.

"I thought the players managed it really well today, in difficult circumstances - on and off the pitch.

"We started well, created enough chances and their goalkeeper was easily the busier one.

"Unfortunately we just couldn't get over the line in the end.

“I’ve always had confidence in this squad of players. They are a really good bunch with quality.

"The performances haven't been good enough but there's a firm belief that one is coming.

"We just need to stick together and keep believing in what we are doing."
