Jack Ross sees a future Hibs manager in David Gray after just one week of the cup-winning legend being part of his coaching staff.
Gray took the decision to hang up his boots this summer and start his coaching journey as first team coach at Easter Road.
He’s had a week of putting his former teammates through their paces at HTC and is now in the thick of it as the Hibees train at their Chester base ahead of friendlies against Accrington Stanley and Stoke City.
And his manager has assessed how the early days have been going with Gray taking training rather than being in amongst it as a player.
“Terrible. We’re thinking about changing it already,” Ross smiled.
“He’s been everything I thought he would be. I know he’s spoken about it but it wasn’t an easy decision for Dave to make when I first broached the subject with him because he had to make a decision to stop playing, which is never an easy one for a player.
“But I mentioned when he first came into the role that I had a close relationship with him since I came to the club. But his thirst for knowledge in terms of my job, from a tactical point of view and a man management point of view has been really big.
“He sees a potential future in this area for him and certainly I do. I know people would love that to be at Hibs - hopefully not too soon because it means he’ll be taking my job!”
