Director David Gordon Green has come on board a film of the story of Boston marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, who lost both his legs in the 2013 attack, it has been reported.

Called Stronger, after Bauman’s book of the same title, it details Bauman’s story of endurance and tracks his recovery and rehabilitation. Bauman had been cheering for his girlfriend on the day of the attack, and is said to have looked directly at one of the bombers responsible for the two pressure cooker bombs that killed three and injured 260. “I saw the bomber,” Bauman wrote. “He took my legs, but he didn’t break me. He only made me stronger.”

David O Russell, whose The Fighter was also set in Boston, had been mentioned as a possible director; however, Green, known for stoner classic Pineapple Express, as well as the likes of Joe, with Nicolas Cage and Manglehorn featuring Al Pacino, has been hired instead. He is currently working on Our Brand Is Crisis, starring Sandra Bullock as an American political strategist who has been hired by a Bolivian presidential candidate.

Stronger is not the only project set to focus on the Boston bombing. CBS Films’ has put Patriot’s Day, which will star Mark Wahlberg as Boston police commissioner Ed Davis, into production, while Fox are working on Boston Strong, about the manhunt for the perpetrators.
