The backlash to David Goodwillie's transfer from Clyde to Raith Rovers has intensified after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon commented on the controversy - and Raith Ladies captain Tyler Rattray quit the club in protest.
In a 2017 civil court case, a judge ruled that Goodwillie and then Dundee United team-mate David Robertson had raped Denise Clair and they were ordered to pay her £100,000, after a criminal case had been dropped.
Earlier today celebrity fan and famous author Val McDermid, who is also a club sponsor, said she was ripping up her season ticket over the "disgusting and despicable move" to bring Goodwillie to Kirkcaldy.

The transfer - which is reported to have pocketed Clyde a five-figure sum - has been widely condemned by Raith Rovers fans and a number of charities, including Rape Crisis Scotland.
And now Ladies Captain Tyler Rattray has said she can now longer play for the club she has spent the last decade with.
She tweeted: “After 10 long years playing for Raith, it’s gutting I have given up now because they have signed someone like this and I want nothing to do with it!
"It was good being captain of Raith while it lasted.”
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also addressed the story on social media, saying the stances McDermid and Rattray have taken are "principled though difficult for both of them."
She also added: "The fact they're in this position at all reminds us that our society still has a long way to go to make zero tolerance of sexual violence a reality."
The club's supporter liaison officer also tendered her resignation.
Goodwillie is set to make his Raith debut on Saturday when the Stark's Park side host Hamilton Accies in a Scottish Championship clash.
