David de Gea sent message over Man Utd form by former Spain boss Vicente del Bosque

Spain icon Vicente del Bosque has no concerns over the quality of his country's goalkeeping department.

Del Bosque - who led Spain to World Cup in 2010 - insists David de Gea and Kepa Arrizabalaga are "very good" options despite their woes at club level.

Manchester United No.1 David de Gea has endured a mixed season and his first-choice status is in jeopardy with Dean Henderson vying for more minutes.

Kepa, meanwhile, has lost the gloves at Chelsea following the arrival of Edouard Mendy from Rennes last summer.

De Gea and Kepa had to warm the bench while Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper Unai Simon started Spain's most-recent fixtures.

But Del Bosque had a defiant response when asked if his former side are lacking between the sticks, insisting the future looks bright for Spain's goalkeepers.

He told Goal : “We have good goalkeepers, young people. They are adapting well.

“The goalkeeper is one of the positions that has evolved the most. Now we play more with our feet. We can be calm. We have very good goalkeepers. That won't be the biggest problem.”

Spain boss Luis Enrique left Kepa out of his squad for Spain's upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with Brighton shot-stopper Robert Sanchez called up to join De Gea and Simon.

The international break will likely be a formative time for managers as they look to craft their squads for this summer's European Championship.

“It is normal that Luis Enrique has already fixed his numbers,” added Del Bosque.

Is David de Gea still one of the best goalkeepers in the world? Have your say in the comments.

“It is likely that he still has a couple of pending decisions. A list of 30 will always see that.

“The bad thing is that later he will have to eliminate some of those who have participated in the qualifiers. They are the decisions a coach must make.”

Spain kick off their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign against Greece in Granada on Thursday night, before travelling to Georgia on Sunday and hosting Kosovo next Wednesday.
