David de Gea sends injury message after Manchester United win vs Southampton

David de Gea lauded his Manchester United teammates for fighting back to beat Southampton on Sunday afternoon as he vowed to be 'back soon' after his half-time withdrawal through injury.

De Gea was replaced at the break by Dean Henderson with United trailing 2-0 at St Mary's, though another second-half substitute in Edinson Cavani turned the game on its head.

After De Gea had failed to keep out efforts from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse, Cavani bagged a brace following a Bruno Fernandes goal, to set United en route to a vital victory.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed after the game that De Gea would have a scan on his injured knee, updating the media on his injury concerns.

"It is a knock just above the knee," said Solskjaer. "So we’ll have a scan and check on him tomorrow. Hopefully he can be ready for Wednesday but can’t promise anything now. Dean came on, very assured, had a couple of half-saves to make but he was tidy and safe with the ball at his feet."

And now De Gea has taken to Instagram to reveal the pain isn't too bad. De Gea said: "With a comeback like this one the knee pain is more bearable. Great work. I'll be back soon C'MON MY TEAM."

De Gea may return to a serious battle for his spot, with Henderson performing well off the bench and pushing the Spaniard hard for his place in the United side.

United were also without Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw for the St Mary's contest and all could again be sidelined for this week's Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.
