David de Gea reveals Manchester United dressing room difference after Solskjaer sacking

David de Gea admitted that the 'spirit' of Manchester United's players was improved during the 1-1 daw against Chelsea on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last weekend following United's 4-1 defeat against Watford, with Michael Carrick subsequently installed as the club's caretaker for United's game against Villarreal in midweek and for Sunday's match versus Chelsea in London.

United beat Villarreal 2-0 and drew 1-1 with Chelsea, meaning Carrick ended the turbulent week at the club unbeaten at the helm.

Ralf Rangnick is now expected to take over as interim manager until the end of the season.

And De Gea — who was outstanding in both the Villarreal and Chelsea games — reflected on United's performance at Stamford Bridge and admitted that the players 'determination' was evident against the Premier League leaders, which is something that perhaps couldn't have been said in the final weeks of Solskjaer's tenure.

“We defended quite well, we were aggressive," De Gea told MUTV.

"The players gave everything today, so it was good to see the players running all over the place, to try to fight for the club. The spirit of the team today was great.

"The determination, the desire and that should give us more confidence to win big games."

De Gea also shared his delight for Sancho, who scored his second goal for the club against Chelsea.

“It was a bit difficult for him [Sancho] at the beginning, that’s normal. He came to the Premier League, it’s never easy.

"But he's now he’s showing his qualities and scoring big goals like today, so I’m happy for him."
