David de Gea believes Manchester United's defenders are seeing the fruits of their labour after keeping a first league clean sheet of the season against Chelsea.
United were frustrated in their 0-0 draw with Frank Lampard's side at Old Trafford, though visiting keeper Edouard Mendy was much busier than De Gea in the game. He denied Marcus Rashford and Uinited debutant Edinson Cavani.
De Gea spoke to MUTV after the game and said he believes United's hard work on their defending is now yielding results.
"For us it's very important to start to keep clean sheets, especially here at home," said the Spanish international. "We defended really well, didn't concede many changes and for me we created enough chances to win the game.
"But it was a tight game against a good team, of course, but I think we deserved a bit more.
"Every training session we always try to improve, make the team better defensively and work for each other. So it's important to get a clean sheet and that's the way to keep going and to win games.
"I think we had two or three big chances with Rashy that their keeper saves. We deserved a bit more. [Late on] was the best time to score, but that's us, trying until the end to score until the last second of the game."
United now face RB Leipzig in the Champions League, looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four games - but also secure a first home win of the season.
"I prefer to play every two or three games, to be confident, but of course it's hard for the players and we have to recover well," De Gea added on the tough schedule.
"Big games are coming up. Leipzig are a big team and it's going to be a tough game.
