David de Gea must be asked 'serious question' after Man Utd display against Everton

Manchester United conceded a last minute equaliser against Everton with Peter Crouch claiming "serious questions" have to be asked of David de Gea.

The Spaniard endured another difficult night as the Red Devils drew 3-3 at Old Trafford.

De Gea's role in Everton's first goal was singled out, but it was his slow reactions to allow Dominic Calvert-Lewin to grab the equaliser that has drawn the most criticism.

United's No 1 has made several high profile errors over the past two years, but has retained his starting spot.

Crouch though has questioned why De Gea is not proving his worth when called upon.

He told the Daily Mail : "I would have to ask a serious question about David de Gea for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s last-gasp equaliser.

"If he was my goalkeeper, I would have expected him to be straight off his line to take everything – man, ball, the lot.

"It’s the last act of the game and your team needs to win to keep the pressure on in the title race, so why are you not coming out to make the difference?"

De Gea's display has also resulted in a scathing assessment from former Red Devil Roy Keane.

The Irishman has previously called the 30-year-old the most over-rated goalkeeper he'd seen for "a long time".

And he was again criticising the Spaniard after his last error.

He said: "Particularly with the position they are in, they’ve got goals in their team but again defensively, particularly the goalkeeper, I’m certainly not his biggest fan.

"Two goals last night, the one thing you want from your goalkeeper is courage and he didn’t show that for the equalising goal. Not a good sign."

The draw means United lose further ground in the title race.

A five-point gap exists between them and league leaders Manchester City.
