David de Gea has been described as a “top player” by Harry Redknapp after earning a place in the former Tottenham manager’s team of the week.
De Gea was once again provided a fine performance at the weekend as he kept a clean sheet in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road to give Ralf Rangnick a second win in charge.
Despite United’s struggles earlier on this season, De Gea has been one of the standout performers as he’s rediscovered some of his best form.
The Spain international had been questioned over his position following some poor displays last season, and looked as though he could lose his position as United’s number one to Dean Henderson.
De Gea looks to have firmly re-established himself in goal though, with the 31-year-old being named in Redknapp’s team of the week for BetVictor after his display at Norwich.
The United stopper was named alongside the likes of Chelsea’s Jorginho and Mason Mount, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Liverpool’s Andy Robertson as Redknapp picked his standouts from the weekend.
Redknapp said: “For the second week in a row, I’ve gone with David De Gea between the sticks. He was, once again, brilliant in Man Utd’s 1-0 win at Norwich.
“With the way United like to sit in away from home, it’s vital they have someone that can keep the ball out of the net. They certainly have that with the Spaniard. He’s a top player.”
De Gea made a couple of stunning saves from Teemu Pukki and Ozan Kabak to ensure United came away from Carrow Road with the three points after Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty continued their recent upturn in form.
The goalkeeper’s performance though wasn’t quite enough though to earn Redknapp’s star man award, with Leicester City’ James Maddison getting the nod for his performance against Newcastle.
