David Cameron swears live on This Morning leaving Holly and Phil mortified

David Cameron swore live on TV today - after discussing the notorious red buses which promised to spend a whopping £350million a week on the NHS.

The former Prime Minister campaigned to Remain during the 2016 referendum and quit his role after losing the battle.

Today, the former Conservative Party leader appeared on This Morning, revealing to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield the impact the divisive referendum had on his life.

One of the biggest symbols of the Leave campaign, which many claim was the driving force behind their victory, was the bus' promise of ploughing £350M per week into the NHS - which days after winning Nigel Farage admitted was not true.

Mr Cameron, alongside wife Samantha on the ITV1 favourite today, admitted: "When I saw that I s**t at the TV as well."

He quickly rectified his mistake and said: "I mean shout, shout."

"You didn't say that on newsnight," joked Phil, who was presenting the show on Thursday, September 19, alongside co-host Holly, according to our sister paper Birmingham Live.

Mr Cameron said: "I wanted to keep a promise, I think that people appreciate they were given that choice - I campaigned hard for us to stay in, but I failed in that endeavor.

"I am deeply sorry for the hiatus we're in and I hope it will be sorted soon.

"I hope were going to get a deal that Boris has got to negotiate."

Phil asked "What would you say to people who thought you threw a grenade and then ran away?" in reference to Cameron quitting office and leaving Number 10 quickly.

Mr Cameron replied: "I'm sorry people felt like that, the strange hum I was doing as I entered Number 10 after resigning was to calm myself, I just couldn't cope with something else going wrong."
