David Cameron launches new speaking career after staff register company

After almost 11 years at the helm of the Conservative party and launching a disastrous referendum he will never be allowed to forget, David Cameron is moving on to pastures new.

The former Prime Minister resigned immediately after Britain voted to leave the European Union and later stood down as an MP for Witney. Mr Cameron, 50, is now looking to build a highly lucrative speaking and writing career away from Downing Street.

His staff have registered The Office of David Cameron Ltd, according to a report in The Times, a move also made by his Labour counterparts Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Mr Cameron is already writing a memoir, due to be published in 2018, for an undisclosed sum and is currently on a speaking tour of the US. On Wednesday evening he was spotted watching basketball with former US President George W. Bush.

His wife Samantha is also stepping out of her husband’s shadow by launching her own clothing range, Cefinn. She already holds a consultancy role at luxury goods brand Smythson, where she was once creative director, but this is a major foray back into her sartorial career after years spent being known first and foremost as the Prime Minister’s wife.

Speaking has long proved to be a particularly fruitful career move for politicians, who can command thousands of pounds for delivering a single address. After being sacked as Chancellor of the Exchequer, parliamentary records revealed George Osborne earned £320,000 from giving speeches in the US

In November, a report claimed Mr Cameron is charging up to £120,000 for one hour long talks, equating to £2,000 per minute.
