David Bowie inspired Rock and Roll circus coming to the Fringe Festival

Edinburgh Bowie fans can get ready for a new show at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a rock and roll circus inspired by the iconic star.

Called Rebel, the show aims to celebrate the Glam Rock star in a circus show packed with acrobatics, articles and a live band playing some of the greatest hits from the singer's 50-year career.

The show is inspired by Bowie’s words: “I want to tart rock up. I don't want to climb out of my fantasies in order to go up on stage - I want to take them on stage with me.”

The show will also not have its band just hang around in the back of the stage. Each member of the band is also a circus performer and their acts will be part of the action. The show will include aerial acts performed to the sounds of Space Oddity, Let’s Dance and Lazarus.

With its cast from Australia, New Zealand and the United States, Rebel will be making its international debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year after enjoying huge success in Australia.

Elena Kirschbaum, the show’s director, said: “Rock ’n’ roll circus is perfect for Bowie, with its glamour, fantasy and spectacle. Rebel aims to be more than a tribute, but to capture the aesthetic and the spirit of a performer who captivated the world across five decades.”
