A spokesperson for David Bowie has confirmed that his new album will be released in January 2016.

Entitled Blackstar, the album will also feature a single of the same name. A statement from Bowie’s publicist states that contrary to “inaccurate reporting on the sound and content of the album”, by sources this weekend, which claimed that “Blackstar may be the oddest work yet” from the pioneer, only the following can be confirmed: the single will be released on 20 November, and it will not be part of Bowie’s theatre piece Lazarus, and that the album will be released on Bowie’s birthday, 8 January 2016. No further details can be confirmed at this stage.

And, if you can’t wait until January, Bowie has written the title track for Sky Atlantic’s new John Hurt and Samantha Morton drama The Last Panthers – his first original music for a film or TV show for 20 years.
