David Beckham slammed for 'taking 30 long-haul flights' whilst campaigning for WWF

David Beckham is a passionate campaigner for the environment, but he's now been slammed for apparently not practising what he preaches.

The football legend, 44, allegedly took 30 long-haul first class flights in 2018, which would have racked up huge amounts of carbon emissions.

Campaigners criticise first class seats as they take up three times more room than the ones in economy.

Passionate Becks has worked with the World Wildlife Fund and supported the climate change documentary Our Planet.

His fancy flights means he would have been responsible for 80,000kg of CO2, which would have dropped down to 20,120kg if he'd flown economy.

The father-of-four took seven flights between Miami and the UK, two flights to Beijing from the UK along with flights to Jakarta, South Africa and Palo Alto, California, in 2018, according to The Sun .

Professor Kevin Anderson, who specialises in climate change at the University of Manchester, called for celebrities to be more responsible when they fly.

"They have got to lead by example," he said.

This week Becks was banned from driving for six months for using his mobile phone while on the road.

He was given six points on his licence at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Thursday, taking his total to 12 points and triggering a ban.

He was also slapped with a £750 fine.
