David Beckham shows off Inter Miami's new stadium as MLS new boys prepare for debut

David Beckham has shown off Inter Miami's new stadium with less than a month until they enter the MLS.

The former England captain took a selfie inside the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale which is still having the finishing touches applied.

He posted it on Instagram with the caption: "40 days and counting... This is becoming more real every day... So excited."

The stadium is not yet fully complete but showed two large stands, one of which includes a row of corporate boxes and facilities, and two stands behind the goal that are exposed to the elements.

In keeping with the club's colours the 18,000-seater stadium boasts a pink, black and white colour scheme.

Lockhart Stadium will be Inter Miami's home for the next two years as they look to establish themselves in the MLS - it was formerly home to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers before they exited the competition in 2016.

There were doubts over whether the stadium would be ready in time for the start of the MLS season, but speaking before the New Year Beckham was optimistic they would make the deadline.

“People turn around to us and say you’ll never build a stadium, you’ll never build a training facility in eight months, but we’ve done that. I’m excited," he told beIN Sports.

“I shouldn’t jinx it, but seeing it last week, everything is on schedule and we’re excited.”

“As a young kid, I only ever wanted to be a professional footballer, I only ever wanted to play for Manchester United and represent my country.

“I was lucky to play for some other great teams as well. But to look back now and say I own a club, that’s very special.”

Following that Beckham hopes to take his club to the 25,000-seater Miami Freedom Park which is set to cost a hefty $750m.

The complex, which is due to be completed in 2022, will include hotels, restaurants, shops and a training facility.

Beckham first announced his intention to own an MLS franchise in 2014 following several successful years with the LA Galaxy.

There was a period of uncertainty but the Manchester United legend's dream will become a reality on March 1 when they take on Los Angeles FC on the west coast.

Inter Miami will then host their first ever home game against Beckham's former employers on March 14.
