David Beckham’s five word message to Brennan Johnson after Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal

Former England captain David Beckham has taken to social media to send a message to Nottingham Forest academy graduate Brennan Johnson.

The winger played the full 90 minutes of Forest ’s memorable 1-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Sunday evening.

Lewis Grabban ’s 83rd minute strike was enough to separate the two sides in a memorable day at the City Ground.

Forest will now face holders Leicester City in the fourth round of the competition next month.

While Grabban’s late winner grabbed the headlines, Johnson ’s performance also caught the eye as he caused problems for Arsenal’s full backs all evening.

Following the game, Beckham posted a message to the player on his Instagram stories.

“Great performance what a moment @brenjohnson_,” he wrote. “Well done mate.”

It’s not the first time that the former Manchester United man has sent a message to Johnson, with Beckham taking a keen interest in the Forest man’s career.

That is because the former England man is friends with the player’s father David, who also played for Forest.

The two know each other through their time together in the academy at Manchester United.

Johnson has scored five times and provided a further four assists for Forest so far this season, catching eyes with his performances at the City Ground.

It has led to speculation that Premier League clubs could make a move for the 20-year-old during the January transfer window.

Johnson’s performances this season also earned praise from former Forest man Roy Keane .

"He's a talented kid," he said.

"No doubt a lot of teams are looking at him and we'll see if Forest can hold on to him.”
