David Beckham's amazing gesture for Kate Garraway's family

Kate Garraway has revealed how football star David Beckham helped her family as her husband Derek Draper lay seriously ill in hospital following his covid battle.

Good Morning Britain star Kate said that David sent personal video messages to her children as Derek battled to stay alive.

Mum-of-two Kate explained that David recorded messages of encouragement for Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, last year - reports Mirror Online.

David's thoughtful gesture was revealed in her new book, Kate Garraway: The Power Of Hope, which is being serialised by the Mail On Sunday.

The TV host said that David, 45, reached out to her on Instagram after Derek was put into an induced coma.

Kate writes in her book: "I hadn’t had the chance to look at social media so it was Darcey and Billy who spotted it and squealed with delight.

"I messaged him back, thanking him and saying the kids were thrilled."

Kate revealed that the father-of-four went on to send personalised videos to give her children encouragement during the difficult time, writing: "He sent a personal video to each of them – words of encouragement and fun. He said he’d been thinking of his own kids and how they might feel."

David shares four children with his wife Victoria Beckham, sons Brooklyn, 22, Romeo, 18, Cruz, 16, and their daughter Harper, 9.

After more than a year in hospital, Derek was allowed home earlier this month.

He has been taken off all machines and breathing apparatus but still receives care at home, which Kate adapted to make more accessible.

The adaptations include a downstairs wet room and a change in the functions of certain rooms including the lounge, which has become Derek's bedroom.

Speaking on GMB, Kate said it felt positive having her husband home for "little moments of reaction".

She even revealed that after spending the majority of the last year unresponsive that Derek, 53, paid her a compliment.

She said: "He actually said something the other day. I walked in the other morning before I went to go to Smooth, I said, 'I’m off to Smooth [Radio] now', and he said, 'New dress'. Which was just amazing."
