David Bates agrees Aberdeen deal as Stephen Glass set to sign out of favour Hamburg defender

Aberdeen have agreed a three year deal to sign David Bates from Hamburg.

The Scottish international is due to arrive at Cormack Park today to finalise the move.

The Dons have agreed a fee with his German side and terms with the 24-year-old.

Other Premiership clubs made moves for Bates but he has decided on a move to Pittodrie.

The former Rangers defender, who has four caps, started off well at Hamburg but more recently has had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Circle Brugge.

The 24-year-old is now keen to get his career back on track and believes moving to Aberdeen will help him back into the Scotland set-up.

Glass had also considered Hamilton Accies central defender Jamie Hamilton but that would take a substantial six figure fee.

Breidablik left-back David Ingvarsson is another who has been looked at.

Aberdeen had touched base with Breidablik about the 22-year-old but nothing has gone any further since.

Glass is also set to seal a loan deal for Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff.

Longstaff has signed a one year extension and will now move to Pittodrie.

The Dons have strengthened their frontline this week with the captures of Marley Watkins and Austin Samuels.
