Hearts have made an enquiry over former Rangers centre back David Bates, according to a report.
The defender is currently in Germany with Hamburg but has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Cercle Brugge.
He's currently with Hamburg's reserve team and has no future at the German outfit and Hearts could bring him back to Scotland before the end of the window.
The Bundesliga 2 club want to sell Bates this summer with him going into the last year of his deal and the Scotland international has been out of favour since 2019.
He moved to Germany from Rangers in the 2018 and has played 25 games for the club but then fell out of favour and was sent out on loan twice.
And the Edinburgh Evening News say Hearts could make a move for him with Robbie Neilson looking to bring in options for his defence.
They've also made an enquiry for Bristol City's Taylor Moore with the former Lens defender being allowed to leave the Robins.
Bates has had an interesting career since initially making the breakthrough at Raith Rovers before joining Rangers on loan.
He was then signed permanently and played 28 times before joining Hamburg on a free.
