David Bakhtiari: WR Trevor Davis fits new Packers offense ‘very well’

Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari senses an opportunity for receiver Trevor Davis to break out during his fourth season in the NFL and first season in Matt LaFleur’s new offense.

Asked by Rich Eisen of “The Rich Eisen Show” to provide a sleeper from training camp practices, Bakhtiari picked Davis, noting how well the speedy receiver fits in LaFleur’s scheme.

“The true dark horse, I’m going to go Trevor Davis,” Bakhtiari said. “The way he plays fits this offense very well. It shows.”

Davis was a standout during the offseason workout program and early portion of training camp practices, using his elite vertical speed and elusiveness in the open field to create big plays in the passing game.

“Every day, there’s been one play he’s made that jumps out on the film,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said during OTAs.

Although there’s a logjam at receiver in Green Bay this summer, it’s possible Davis could give the Packers offense a boost in the slot and as a field-stretching receiver, in addition to his contributions on special teams.

He certainly has the speed, and he’s proven himself tough to get on the ground when handling the football in space as a returner. As Bakhtiari notes, LaFleur’s offense could be situated to take better advantage of both skills.

Now, it’s on Davis to stay healthy and consistently perform during camp practices and preseason games. If he can, he’ll have a legitimate shot at locking down a roster spot and a legitimate role on both offense and special teams.

“I thought Trevor had a solid OTAs,” LaFleur said last week. “For him, can you consistently do it day in and day out? And when we get to the preseason games, can that transition to the games?”
