David Bailey portraits cover Oxford Street store to bring Londoners 'a little bit of joy through art'

Work by photographer David Bailey will feature on a giant electric billboard on Oxford Street as part of an art project.

His images will be shown on screens around Flannels. The luxury clothing store behind the display, together with art curators W1 Curates, will show Mr Bailey’s work later this month.

Mr Bailey, who has photographed the likes of Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the Kray twins and Princess Diana, said the display “takes window dressing to another level.”

The paintings of Turner Prize nominee Ian Davenport are currently being shown on the screens.

Mark Dale, founder of W1 Curates, said: “We want to bring art to the masses and make Oxford Street and London a nicer place to be. We want to bring a little bit of joy through art and give a little bit back to London.”

The exterior of the recently-opened Flannels store is clad in an enormous wraparound screen about two thirds the size of Piccadilly Circus which will project street art, photography and abstract designs.
