David Andrews announces he’s been cleared for return in 2020

David Andrews is ready to return for the 2020 season after missing 2019 with blood clots.

The New England Patriots center made the announcement on Instagram during the NFL Draft — potentially keeping the team from drafting a center. Andrews joined the Patriots in 2015 and was trusted by Tom Brady for four seasons before missing last year.

“I know 2020 has affected everyone in ways we couldn’t have imagined prior,” Andrews said. “But with the draft over the next few days a lot of dreams are gonna be realized for a lot of players entering the league. During this time there has been a lot of time for reflection on the past, present and future. As to the future I’m excited that I’ll have the opportunity to play the game I love again. When and whatever the nfl season looks like I’m just thankful that I’ll be able to get back to competing with my teammates and coaches. Go pats.”

The addition of Andrews will be huge for the Patriots — who lost their backup Ted Karras in free agency this offseason. The Patriots also have 2019 fourth-round pick Hjalte Froholdt who has some experience at center.

Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham was clearly excited to get the talented center back into the fold.
