David and Samantha Cameron appeared on the steps of No 10 this morning for a first photocall with their new daughter, Florence Rose Endellion.

Florence will hopefully one day look back fondly on a morning when Her Majesty's press was almost exclusively focused on one subject – her nappies.

"Changed any nappies?" one reporter yelled at the prime minister.

"Hundreds," he eventually replied.

"Has Nick Clegg changed any nappies yet?" asked another journalist (why, I don't know).

"That's next," replied Cameron, equally bizarrely.

Not to be outdone, the Press Association news agency reported:

The appearance was delayed by more than 10 minutes and a Downing Street press officer said this was for "operational reasons". It was not clear if there was nappy changing involved.

Poor Florence.
