David Alaba to Chelsea: £60m transfer, what the player has said, Frank Lampard's January plan

Chelsea have been linked with a number of players already in the January transfer window.

The Blues had their two-window FIFA transfer ban reduced to just one window by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which they served in the summer, meaning they are free to sign new players this month.

Frank Lampard reportedly has a transfer budget of around £150million to spend, with a striker high on his list of priorities to take the pressure off youngster Tammy Abraham.

But there are other positions that need strengthening too, with the Blues hit and miss in terms of results and performances of late.

The left-back position is one area that Lampard could focus on this month and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has emerged as a transfer target.

Here's what we know about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Left-back problems

Neither Marcos Alonso nor Emerson Palmieri have been able to tie down a regular spot in Lampard's starting XI.

And Lampard has turned to Cesar Azpilicueta to play there with young Reece James coming in at right-back.

Lampard is planning on entering the market this month with a view to bolstering his squad to ensure they remain in the Champions League places.

£60m price tag

Alaba is rated by the German giants at round £60million.

And according to our friends at the Mirror , Chelsea are weighing up a bid for the Austrian in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has just 18 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena remaining and Bayern could be tempted to cash in on him now, rather than sell him on a cheaper deal in the summer.

Lampard wants to bolster his squad this month and signing Alaba would be something of s statement signing.

What Alaba has said

The defender has admitted that he could see himself playing in a different league.

The 27-year-old has been in the German Bundesliga since he joined Bayern Munich in 2009 and he could be ready to test himself somewhere else.

Speaking in an interview with Sport1 in December he said: "I can imagine both: to either stay here or take a different path. At the moment, however, we have goals here at Bayern Munich that I want to achieve."
