David Alaba slams Bayern Munich over contract talks amid Man City transfer speculation

David Alaba says it was a slap in the face to be asked to consider being part of a swap deal at Bayern Munich.

The defender is out of contract at the European champions at the end of the season, which has prompted plenty of speculation over his future.

In the summer, it was reported by Bild that Bayern were willing to offer Alaba to Manchester City as part of a swap deal for Leroy Sane.

Bayern eventually bought Sane outright, but Alaba confirmed he was offered an exit as part of a swap to an unnamed club.

Speaking out about his contract negotiations, the 28-year-old said they had been complicated by Bayern willing to let him leave.

He said: "This respect and appreciation for what I was looking for, where the contract negotiations began, did not go in the right direction.

"That was a year ago. In times when coronavirus was still very far away.

"It went on and on. After the second or third conversation I got a call and was asked if I could consider a swap. Where I then say: That's a slap in the face somewhere. "

Bayern president Herbert Hainer has claimed that the club have now retracted their contract offer to Alaba.

It has led the defender to hit out at the club, revealing his disappointment at how they have allowed rumours of how much he is asking to be paid to spread.

He said: "I have emphasised again and again that I would have liked very much that internal matters also remained internal.

"To portray myself in public as it was in the last few months - that's how I can understand the fans' perspective. I can assure you that the sums that are put into the room are not true.

"I was disappointed and also hurt somewhere that it was not denied by the authorities, that I never asked for the figures that are now being revealed in the media."
