David Alaba 'open to Premier League switch' amid Man City speculation and more transfer rumours

Bayern Munich star David Alaba has had a change of heart and is now open to a move to the Premier League, amid continued links with Manchester City, according to reports.

The versatile defender is now in the final year of his contract in Munich and negotiations for an extension have so far failed to yield any results.

It's looking increasingly likely that the Austrian may leave the Allianz Arena for nothing at the end of the season, which is certain to spark a competitive race for his signature.

City were repeatedly linked with Alaba last summer as they sought to improve their back-line, but a move never materialised and Ruben Dias, alongside Nathan Ake, were signed instead.

While Alaba has recently converted to a brilliant centre-back, he made his name as one of the best left-backs in the world and also proved himself capable in midfield while playing under Pep Guardiola in Germany.

Left-back continues to be a troubled position for City, despite the impressive performances of natural right-back Joao Cancelo, as Benjamin Mendy and Aleks Zinchenko continue to struggle with injuries and for form.

It could make Alaba an interest proposition for City, especially on a free, and according to 90min, he would now be interested in moving to England.

It's reported that the 28-year-old was initially holding out for a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, but has now changed his mind and would be willing to join a Premier League giant.

Liverpool are also said to be interested and, it's been reported, they may try and sign him in January following the season-ending injury to Virgil van Dijk.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich have reportedly made contact with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

City have previously been linked with the combative defensive midfielder but, according to Sky Deutschland, Bayern have taken the lead in trying to attain his signature, though he is reportedly unlikely to leave in January.
