David Alaba 'open' to Liverpool transfer amid Bayern Munich exit links

David Alaba is reportedly open to a move to Liverpool as he edges to closer to the exit door at Bayern Munich.

The Reds are currently in a defensive crisis with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined by injury.

Jurgen Klopp failed to replace Dejan Lovren after his departure to Zenit St Petersburg, leaving Joel Matip as his only natural centre-back.

The unsettled Alaba has been identified as a solution, with the Austrian presiding over his future at present.

And according to Football Insider, the versatile defender is keen for a new challenge, meaning a move in January could be on the cards.

It’s thought that he would prefer a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona, but they are unlikely to fork out for Bayern’s demands which could be as high as £30m.

That means Alaba could follow in the footsteps of former Bayern teammate Thiago Alcantara in joining the Reds.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer recently admitted that the club were struggling to reach an agreement with Alaba as his representatives felt the offer was not up to scratch.

"We have a new situation since this weekend," Hainer told BR Blickpunkt Sport. "We submitted to David and his advisor some time ago what we think was a very good offer.

"During the last meeting we had said we wanted clarity by the end of October. We did not hear anything until yesterday and we contacted his advisor.

"The answer was that the offer was still unsatisfactory and we should think about it again. We then decided to take the offer completely off the table. This means there is no longer an offer."
