David Alaba confronts furious Austria fans as Real Madrid star feels heat after Scotland win

By Gavin Berry

Austria captain David Alaba confronted furious fans following his side’s defeat to Scotland which left their World Cup dream in tatters.

The Real Madrid star jumped over the advertising hoardings at the Ernst Happel Stadium after the home support vented their anger at under-fire Franco Foda’s flops.

Lyndon Dykes netted the only goal of the game in Vienna from the penalty spot in the first half to move Steve Clarke’s men four points ahead of Austria in qualifying Group F.

The home support were raging with the defeat coming a few days after a 5-2 thrashing by Israel and Alaba.

And the skipper went over to speak to the punters who vented their anger towards their players.

Alaba was joined by fellow senior star Marko Arnautovic with the Bologna striker trying to calm them down.

Sky Sports cameras captured the anger of the Austria fans after the full time whistle as their two key men tried to calm them down.

Scotland’s win kept up their 43-year unbeaten run in Vienna and the three points is a huge boost to their World Cup 2022 hopes.
