David Alaba and four other free signings Liverpool could make in summer

With the January transfer window now closed, clubs will be starting to plan for the summer.

Liverpool were busy on deadline day, signing Ben Davies from Preston North End and fellow central defender Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke.

The Reds made their move to provide much-needed cover at the back, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez recovering from long-term lay-offs and Joel Matip now ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.

Will Liverpool look to do any more business at the end of the 2020/21 campaign?

Here, we take a look at some of the players who are in the final year of their current contract and could be available on free transfers in the summer...

David Alaba

Liverpool have been speculatively linked with Austria international defender David Alaba, who looks set to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, along with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Jerome Boateng

Another player who could be leaving Bayern Munich, Jerome Boateng has been attracting plenty of interest too.

Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are reported to be keen on the 32-year-old defender.

Memphis Depay

Netherlands international Memphis Depay has reignited his career with a successful spell at Lyon.

The former Manchester United forward has been linked with a return to the Premier League, while Barcelona - managed by compatriot Ronald Koeman - is another possible destination.

Moussa Marega

Mali international Moussa Marega is set to be available on a free transfer this summer.

The Porto forward has previously been linked with Premier League sides West Ham United, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Lionel Messi

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner ended up staying at Barcelona following a very public transfer row last summer.

But the Argentina superstar could leave the Nou Camp when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Liverpool would be something of a fanciful destination, however, given the huge wage demands that would surely be attached.

Manchester City have been widely touted as potential suitors.

Other players whose contracts are set to expire include:

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain)

Juan Bernat (Paris Saint-Germain)

Angel Di Maria (Paris Saint-Germain)

Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan)

David Luiz (Arsenal)

Juan Mata (Manchester United)

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Roma)

Arkadiusz Milik (Napoli)

Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

Marcos Rojo (Manchester United)

Florian Thauvin (Marseille)

Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid)

Danny Rose (Tottenham)
