Dave slams NHS cuts and says government won't care about workers after coronavirus

Rapper Dave has shared his thoughts on the government's treatment of the NHS amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes as thousands of retirees have returned to help the service deal with coronavirus, with many healthcare workers working seven days a week.

Dave took to his Instagram stories to slam the cuts to the health service, and claimed the government will not care about workers once coronavirus is over.

He wondered why NHS workers did not already get perks such as free parking and wages they can live on and support a family.

Dave appeared to be responding to people calling those who were not self-isolating "selfish" (Instagram)

This includes Dave's mother, who he said has worked for the NHS her whole life.

"You wanna talk about selfish," he wrote.

"Selfish is having a government that had the measures to stop an outbreak before it came but decided to prioritise other things.

"Selfish is the people who voted for the people destroying the NHS that everybody loves so much now."

He continued to say no one cared about his mother or other NHS workers until now, asking: "How the f*** can a country elect a party that's cut it to the point of no return and in the same breath start talking about how much they're behind it's f***ed."

He went on to say he supported the applause for NHS workers last week, but emphasised they deserved "free parking", "wages they could actually live on", "support" and "basic human f***ing respect" before, and after the pandemic.

He concluded: This country is f***ed."

Dave has been outspoken with his political beliefs a lot in the past, such as his powerful performance at the BRITs earlier this year.

He called Boris Johnson a racist and demanded justice for the victims of Grenfell Tower and Windrush generation.

He also paid tribute to the victims of the London Bridge terror attack, calling Jack Merritt, who advocated for racial justice and prisoner rehabilitation his "brother in arms".
