Dave King rubbishes Easdales' Rangers takeover claim as John Bennett and James Bisgrove get his backing

Dave King has shot down claims he’s working with the Easdale Brothers to bring down John Bennett’s new Rangers regime.

A report for yesterday claimed the ex Ibrox chairman was considering teaming up with the Greenock-based businessmen to launch a boardroom coup. Former football board chairman Sandy Easdale and his brother James were both heavily invested in Gers before being ousted by King and his allies in 2015.

Their shares were later frozen by a Court order but yesterday’s report claimed they had succeeded in having them unlocked and were now looking to unite with King to unseat Bennett from his Ibrox throne. But King has scoffed at those suggestions, saying: “I have no idea whatsoever if the so-called Easdale shares have been released by a Court order. I was the one who had them blocked and cannot conceive of a good reason why this could be overturned by a Court.

"What I can say, emphatically, is that I have had no discussions with the Easdales for many years and they have made no attempt to contact me. They know that I would never enter into an alliance with them.”

King fell out with former ally Douglas Park during his tenure as chairman but is now backing Bennett. He added in a statement: “I am 100% behind James Bisgrove and John Bennett”
