Dave King in Neil Lennon Celtic admission as ex-Rangers chief believes rivals are 'better than they're playing'

Former Rangers chairman Dave King believes the "uncertainty" Celtic are currently facing will be a deciding factor in the race for the title.

Neil Lennon is under immense pressure after only two wins in 11 games and he desperately needs a result against St Johnstone after three consecutive defeats in all competitions.

The South African-based businessman reckons Rangers are perfectly poised to end their rivals' domestic dominance and their Ten In A Row dreams in the process.

And King remains cautiously optimistic about the Ibrox side's title chances despite being aware of a potential bounce back effect the Premiership champions would get from a managerial change.

Speaking to STV, he said: "I’m certainly hopeful.

"I think Celtic are better than they are playing, I think their squad is better.

"It will be interesting to see whether they have any managerial changes and whether a new person, if they did come in, gives them a boost or doesn’t give them a boost.

"I think there’s a lot of uncertainty, let’s say, on the Celtic side, as to how they’re going to be for the rest of the season.

"But if I look at it purely from a Rangers perspective, they’ve looked dominant."

And the 65-year-old was defiant when asked if he still believes the Hoops will fold "like a pack of cards" if Rangers are able to win a Premiership title.

He added: "I stand by it. Celtic have had a run, they’ve won titles.

"We weren’t there, I think five of the years, we weren’t there.

"When we came back we clearly didn’t have the resources to compete.

"We’ve slowly built that up and narrowed the gap, certainly on playing terms. We’re top of the league on merit and if we can win the league this year, I don’t think that will be a one-off."
