Dave King brands Celtic Ange Postecoglou appointment a 'big risk' as former Rangers chairman drops Caixinha comparison

Former Rangers chairman Dave King has branded Ange Postecoglou's Celtic arrival a "big risk" — and compared it to when he brought Pedro Caixinha to Glasgow.

The Australian boss was unveiled at Parkhead last week and comparisons to the flop Portuguese former Ibrox boss have been rife among those who aren't convinced he'll cut it in the city.

King believes Steven Gerrard at Rangers was prepared for the intense atmosphere of Scottish football given he was already immersed in the culture of Liverpool but isn't sure about Postecoglou, who has joined from J-League Yokohama F. Marinos.

Postecoglou's first press conference gave many Celtic fans added confidence and for now he's managed to get some of his initial detractors onside.

But King hasn't been swayed and speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "I think there are obvious risks.

"I think there are risks just in coming to the UK and then Glasgow is a particularly difficult place to come into.

"There is a culture around it. It's an absolute fishbowl from the media and fans' point of view. It's not just from a footballing point of view. There is a huge cultural adjustment. It's a very, very difficult situation.

"We saw that with Pedro. It could have worked but it didn't work.

"Whereas, bringing in someone like Steven, while Glasgow is still difficult, there is at least a comparative benchmark in Liverpool as to what it will be like.

"But coming from some of these foreign leagues is a big risk. It might work. But it's definitely a big risk."
